New speed server round starts Friday 2/13/09.

Travian is a very addictive free to play browser game were you and your friends basically compete for world dominance against thousands of other players. A few of us have played a round or two and have had great fun with it. Speed server rounds last about 100 days.

I'll try it out, any advice for the beginner?

1. Wheat field level 2
2. Main Building level 3
3. Wheat field level 3
4. (Resources will come)
5. Rally point level 1
6. Barracks level 1
7. Build maces until you have 3. Raid the nearest inactive (under 9 population is best for now, 2 to 5 pop players built one thing then quit. 9 pop=might have an army if they are teuton).
8. Raid people over 9 pop ONLY if they are romans...
9. Do not raid guals at all.
10. Raid constantly until you empty ppls warehouses. You can tell if it's emptied by adding up total resources and dividing by number of maces. It should equal 60.
11. Do this for 3 days. Build nothing but maces during this time, wheat fields too whenever you want if crop is a problem. Upgrade warehouses whenever you have to...let NOTHING overflow
12. Raiding parties should NEVER go over 15. 15 maces for the first clear, if they have not a lot of resources 5 is minimum.
13. If you get an imbalance of resources (you WILL have extra wheat and iron..) use the NPC merchant and some gold to redistrubute them. Usually do a ratio of 10 wood:7 clay: 1 iron: 2 wheat because you need wood+clay most and wheat and iron will fill up again fast.
14. You should have 200-500 maces by day 3.
15. Keep raiding the nearby inactives.
16. Build a level 10 main building
17. Build a level 10 academy
18. Build a level 10 town hall
19. Throw a party in the town hall.
20. Build residence up now constantly. Get warehouses to hold over 11k, same with granary.
21. Once residence is level 10 (shouldn't take long), save up for settlers. Once you have the exact number of resources to build one, use NPC merchant to redistribute it perfectly.
22. Find a 15 cropper with nearby wheat oasises
23. Settle the new village near here
24. Repeat the same thing you did for the first village-except use marketplace to send resources to pump maces into it.
25. Once you have 100 maces, build massive resources fields in both.
26. Get a town hall in new village.
27. Throw constant parties in both; get another new village ASAP.
28. New villages cluster around second village. They dont need maces-just pump resource fields+town halls.
Once you get to 4 villages settle the 15-cropper.

Things you want to know...

The thing that will ruin your gameplay is being farmed...

Farming means someone sends troops at your village.. those troops steal your resources and take them back.

How I play.. I start VERY fast and build like 3-4 troops and I start farming... I hit everyone around me that looks like a good target.

Eventually I get up to 200-300 troops and I am farming 30ish guys in my area and that is my only source of income. Those guys really don't even get to play anymore because I am stealing everything.

How to prevent being a farm:
1) Crannies... A cranny is a structure in your town that protects your resources. Most protect 1000 resources... Gaul Crannies protect 2000.. You will want to build a few crannies to protect your stuff... If someone hits you and gets 0 resources they don't come back.

2) Get Troops and farm others... If you can get troops quickly and start farming.. some others may still try to hit you.. but you should be stronger.

3) When an attack is incoming you see it coming.. they take a while to get to you so if you check regularly you will see them.. when you see them just spend your resources so they don't get any / much resources.. that will make them stop attacking you.

4) Some players will respond well if you are VERY polite in a in game message.. If you get hit and you reply to someone and politly explain that you are an active player learning the game and ask for a little time to show that you are active some players will leave you alone and watch for you to grow. Usually if I get a well formatted polite letter I will leave them alone for a day or 2 to see if they grow.. if they grow by 30-40 in 2 days I will forget about them for a while (until they are big enough for me to steal their whole town.. but that comes later) .. if they grow by 3 population in 2 days I will start drilling them again.

I would really suggest crannies... If you start giving up resources every attack you will get farmed constantly and your game is basically over. If you don't give it up they will leave you alone... Just like women.

Hey, I need some help with my town. There is a person close to me that is in a completely different time zone, and every night (like 1am to 5am here) he attacks me 6-7 times.

I'm upgrading my cranny as much as a can, but logging only with only a few hundred resources in the morning is bad...any ideas?

I must say I'm not having a very fun time, my asshole neighbor is some kinda crazy hardcore player who has been raiding me every hour for the last 2 days straight. All I can do is hide my resources and hope he stops long enough for me to make some troops.

I made lots of crannies like you said and he isn't getting any resources from me but he doesn't stop trying.

I am going to get him sooner or later... If you want to you can send troops you make to my village... I cannot guarentee their safety... but I have only been hit like twice so far.. both were pretty small attacks.
